The Pretenders, Chrissie’s frontwoman since 1978, were developed by Chrissie herself. The hippie counterculture movement influenced her, working in a clothing store with designer Vivienne Westwood in London. She left the music for fashion. She released songs with musicians including UB40, Cher and Frank Sinatra. After making a demo tape in 1978, she gave it to Real Records’ Dave Hill. She started paying back the rent she owed in her London practice room, making it all come back and more.
