They saw that the excavator made enough space for the calf to go through, so the locals joined in on the fun. The strong residents volunteered to mark where the spots where they had to dig. Everyone worked together to ensure that the calf was going to see another day. Since the baby elephant fought hard for its life, the herd of elephants started to pace back and forth again to show support.

The officers might have been using heavy equipment, but they were still happy to get an extra hand the locals. One officer was tasked to give the people organized orders. All it would take was a single wrong move for their efforts to go to waste. The locals needed to be careful in the name of their own safety. Some gave the rescue officers food, although it was clear that they would not be able to finish it.
