Richard and Karen were born to Harold Bertram Carpenter and Agnes Reuwer. As children, Richard tended to stay indoors, enjoying classical music and practicing the piano while Karen preferred to spend time outdoors with her peers. Despite the difference in how they spend their time, their parents were able to see that their kids were both interested in music.
