Nirvana’s lead singer was Kurt Cobain, an incredibly influential member of the Generation’s X. He is also the lead guitarist for the group. Born in Washington, he and Aaron Burckhard and Krist Novoselic founded the band in 1987. It was part of the Grunge scene in Seattle. Mostly through his second album, which had the single “Smells Like Teen Spirit.” This marked the beginning of their success. Cobain hated the coverage of his message and how it was oversimplified by the mainstream media.

Steely Dan’s co-songwriter and founder was Walter Becker. For jazz/rock bands, he played guitar and bass, too. He met his co-founder, Donald Fagen, at Bard College when they were students. They decided to start Steely Dan, and then they relocated to Los Angeles. Following the breakup, Becker moved to Hawaii, became a record producer, and later became part of the band China Crisis. Steely Dan was reformed in 1993 by Fagen.
