Ancient Chinese Ceramic
A family from New York wanted to have this simple bowl to be displayed on their mantel. They bought it for $3 and showed it. Later on, the whole family began to wonder what the bowl’s true worth is. They only got it for a small cost, but something about it seemed unique. The family decided to bring it to Sotheby. They were eventually informed that the bowl was an ancient Chinese ceramic. If auctioned, it would fetch between $200,000 to $300,000. It was later sold for $2.2 million.
Original Print of July 4, 1776, Declaration of Independence
During the year 1989, there was an anonymous man who purchased a painting. He spent $4 for it because he liked the frame, and he thought of reusing it. When he got home, he removed the picture and attempted to put something else inside. Upon opening the frame, he discovered that the original print of the United States of America’s July 4, 1776, Declaration of Independence was lying under the picture. The man brought it up for auction. The Sotheby fetched it two years later for a whopping $2,420,000!
