Even though his new motive for shaving the beard off was noble, it was a decision that required a lot of thought before he did anything drastic. He seemed to be getting cold feet as it was going to be a huge change for him. Long beards are practical features for duck hunters as it helped them blend in with the environment. After thinking about it a lot, he came to the conclusion that shaving off the facial hair would help the charity and their advocacy.
