Immediately after the death of Caitlin, fans immediately “flooded Internet message boards with angry postings directed at Bellisario.” Shortly after Bellisario announced Alexander’s replacement would be coming soon and that the character would be “a new female lead character […], quite different from the conservative Agent Todd. Bellisario spoke fondly over Tony’s character development throughout the seasons, “I can’t say enough about Michael Weatherly…He started out on NCIS [playing] a character who was just very unlikable to some women because he was just such a chauvinist, and he has gradually over the [seasons] changed. Taken his character and softened it.” Fans couldn’t agree more!
