Fans are convinced that when The Joker’s explosions didn’t go off as they should have, he had to improvise. MoviePilot claims that Heath Ledger pressed the trigger button many times but that wasn’t scripted. However they kept it as it fit so well!

The special effects team had their work cut out for them in Scream. And with so many bloody scenes, we had a moment of pure gold. Skeet Ulrich lost control with the blood-covered phone and winged it at Matthew Lillard’s head. And this wasn’t scripted at all! Lillard naturally reacted with genuine indignation, yelling, “You hit me with the phone, d**k!” And as it wasn’t out of character for him to yell so, they kept it in the film.
