Plucas wasn’t ready to give up or just sit back and hope for the best. So he took drastic actions. He actually called local hunters and invited them over to meet Emma. Although he wasn’t sure what this meeting would result in, he wanted to try anything to save Emma. He said, “I had some hunters over for them to see her as not just a nice, warm steak with potatoes and vegetables on the table, but as a very intelligent and loving animal.”

A Surprising Response
Plucas always pictured hunters a certain way ever since the first incident, so he had no idea what to expect. Actually, the response of the first hunters completely shocked him! They promised not to hunt Emma. After meeting her, they saw how incredible she was and how special she was to Plucas. Also they recognized the trauma she endured as a calf. It seemed Plucas’ hopeless determination actually made a huge difference!
