There’s nothing like a bond between father and son. Parents can understand their child’s loved one and what they will do for their son or daughter. Some parents are giving up everything for their kids, and we see this everywhere. Parents devote their lives to their kids, whether it’s getting up extra early to take their children to school or making a dinner that satisfies everyone’s interests. For this rule, this father was no exception. This dad did something unbelievable, whether it was a paternal instinct or just a matter of genuine care.

His Son Disappeared, And He Did Everything He Could To Get Him Home Safely
Putting Children First
Most parents stop their whole life to focus on their children and do everything they can when they fear their child is in danger. On January 16, 2018, Tony Lethbridge, a father from Australia, did precisely when he learned that his son was missing. He exceeded all usual parenting standards and changed how we see the concept of “putting your child first.”

Putting Children First
Just An Average Day
In New South Wales, Australia, it began just like any other day. Tony Lethbridge lived in a small town called Lake Macquarie with his 17-year-old son, Samuel, so they spent most of their time in Sydney, eight miles away. Samuel decided to go to a party in Sydney, and never expected his life to be put at risk.

Just An Average Day
Something Was Off
At the end of the night, Tony did not hear a single word from his son, so he knew something was up. Sometimes teenagers forget to tell their parents that they got home safely after a big night, but that’s not necessarily typical of Samuel. Samuel could quickly have just fallen asleep with a friend or forgotten to charge his phone, but he couldn’t help but feel like something was wrong. Tony anticipated the possible scenarios.

Something Was Off
The Typical Parent Reaction
Parents freak out when they don’t receive a call from their children after a night out. We all know what it is like to wake up as a kid with over 10 missed calls from our mom or dad. Tony hoped he was exaggerating, while his mind was going in so many different directions. While he hoped that Samuel would just come through the door, without a word, 20 hours passed. It was clear at this point that something was wrong.

The Typical Parent Reaction
His Mind Went To The Worst Place
Tony didn’t sleep the entire night and reassured himself that Samuel partied a bit too much and just forgot to message his father. It was less likely when Sunday night came around. Before completely freaking out, Tony decided to wait one more night. He woke up on Monday morning, but his son was still nowhere to be found.

His Mind Went To The Worst Place
Wild Child
Tony was so antsy on what to do next. He had consulted his friends and family, who said he was probably running away. Samuel was very close to Tony, and he knew this wasn’t typical of Samuel. The only reason Samuel wouldn’t update his parents was that he didn’t have access to it. He was sure that Samuel needed his help, and he was determined to find him.

Wild Child
Past Trauma
Many traumatic stories about people left stranded after a terrible car accident floating around, and Tony couldn’t help but think about them. Tony was haunted by information about a victim left behind and died five days after being discovered. There was no chance that he was letting his son do something like this. Even though he was panicking, he knew it was too early to call the police, but he filed a missing person report as soon as he could.

Past Trauma
The Waiting Game
The police started the search, instructing Tony and his wife to go home and wait for something to be found. He understood it would take some time for the investigation, but he was getting impatient waiting around since his son was in danger. He didn’t want to expect the worst, but all he could imagine was a horrific car accident involving Samuel. He decided it was time for the situation to be taken into his own hands.

The Waiting Game
Calling For Help
Tony devised a plan that would guarantee that Samuel would be found. He could not do it alone, so he called Michael, his brother, to help him. Michael needed no persuasion and was willing to do whatever he could to help find Samuel for Tony. They knew this plan wouldn’t be cheap, so before they were on their way to the airport, they rushed over to the ATM.

Calling For Help
A Special Favor
With money in hand, Tony and his brother arrived at Lake Macquire Airport. They went to Lee Mitchell, who used to be a formal helicopter pilot and a former helicopter rental business owner. Tony told Lee his idea, which involved a helicopter search. He offered him $1000, and Lee agreed to help and refused the money.

A Special Favor
Refusing Pay
“When Tony first came to the office, our CEO wasn’t here, so our staff offered our services for as long as required for the $1000 offered, and we launched the helicopter in good faith and without payment,” director Lee Mitchell said. Director Lee Mitchell said. Once the ordeal was said and done, Lee knew that he would not keep the money. “Under the circumstances, we believe there has been enough stress on the family and that any additional financial stress was unwarranted,” Mr. Mitchell said.

Refusing Pay
One Great Uncle
The helicopter owner wasn’t the only one who helped Tony with his plan and saved the day. His brother helped him and went on the journey instead since Tony was susceptible to air sickness and had a great fear of heights.

During the search, Tony was so stressed, especially since he had no control over what was going on. He was trying to remain optimistic that Lee and his brother would found Samuel, but he couldn’t help but be scared of what was to come. He hoped that they would not come back without his son.

The Anticipation
Time was running out, and Tony could no longer handle the suspense. He had no way to get in touch with them, and he began to feel guilty about not being in the air. He convinced himself that he was right to stay behind, but he still felt sick to his stomach.

The Anticipation
After Fifteen Minutes
Michael and Lee had wanted to find Samuel so bad. With the hope of finding something that would lead them to Samuel, they looked around the area. They were worried about finding anything, but after fifteen minutes, they noticed something. It was something that they weren’t optimistic about whether it would help them.

After Fifteen Minutes
There’s Hope
The men noticed Samuel’s car, which was located near Crangan Bay off PCH. They weren’t quite sure if Michael was alive, but now they spotted a vehicle. Michael admitted in a later interview that it would have been unsuccessful to search for a car.

There’s Hope
The News
When they finally contacted Tony that they had found Samuel’s car, he was frantically waiting for them. He drove immediately to the location where the vehicle had been spotted. If someone was inside the vehicle, they couldn’t tell, so they had to get closer to be sure. And almost 50 meters from the scene, Michael got out, and Lee stayed in the helicopter above.

The News
Emotional Rollercoaster
It’s only logical that Tony could not rest until he found his son and made sure he was all right. However, things weren’t that easy. “Once we began the search, the roller coaster of emotions were obvious on the family and were put into overdrive when we found the car,” explained Mr. Mitchell. The real stress started once the car was found.

Emotional Rollercoaster
Staying Optimistic
When he started to get nervous about finding the result, Michael got closer to Samuel’s car. He began to shout the name of his nephew, but he did not hear a response. He was scared of what he might find at that point. He noticed that Samuel’s head was moving slightly, and he felt relieved. He called Tony to tell him that his son was still alive, and he went to see if Samuel was all right.

Staying Optimistic
His Situation
Tony was pleased that Samuel was still breathing, but that didn’t mean they were entirely in the clear. Given that he was in an accident that landed his car 20 yards off the road, he was in bad condition. Samuel was in critical condition with severe dehydration, fatal injuries, and a severe thigh bone fracture that stuck out of his skin. It was clear that he needed to see a doctor immediately.

His Situation
Ultimate Relief
Lee took part in the joy Tony and Michael felt when the car was found, even more so when they discovered that Sam was breathing. “Obviously, we were ecstatic when the signal from the ground was [indicated] that Sam was still alive, even though we were unaware of his condition. We have been fortunate to be able to help this family in their time of need and are looking forward to meeting Sam once he is well enough.”

Ultimate Relief
Wasn’t Going To Be Easy
A subtle head movement was made by Samuel that showed a positive sign. Immediately, they called an ambulance, and it was clear that taking Samuel out of the car would be a challenge. To pull him out, they cut the car, and they did it successfully.

Wasn’t Going To Be Easy
To The Hospital
After the emergency team removed Samuel, he was taken to John Hunter Hospital, stabilized, and sent to intensive care for his surgeries. It was clear that it would not be a comfortable journey to recovery with everything he went through, but he would be all right overall.

To The Hospital
The Road To Recovery
Tony spoke to a news outlet shortly after the discovery of his son. He notified them that Sam had been released from intensive care and that his condition was improving slowly. He had successful surgery on his arm. After that, he had to undergo an operation on his injured leg.

The Road To Recovery
Medical Expenses
“We recognize that the family will have many medical expenses in the future and wanted to contribute where we can.” Lee continued. Knowing that there are people out there who genuinely care about others and their well-being is so comforting. It genuinely gives us hope. No amount of money could, of course, be compared to Sam being found alive. For the boy’s father, we’re sure the whole situation was more than stressful.

Medical Expenses
Grateful
Tony knew he had to do something after Samuel was brought to him safely. To begin with, he and his wife were going to give Lee Mitchell $1,000 for finding their son. Though he initially refused the money, Tony insisted now that he found his son.

Grateful
Successful Mission
Lee refused the money despite his efforts and explained how happy he was that the mission worked out. He even admitted that there would be many expenses for the family to come, and he wanted to help in whatever way he could. If it had not been for Tony, Michael, and Lee, who worked together brilliantly, this plan couldn’t have been as successful.

A Touching Tribute
As Samuel recovered, his sister, Megan, posted a Facebook tribute to the helicopter company, expressing her gratitude. She wrote the following: “Just wanted to let everyone know as if skyline aviation hasn’t done enough for my brother and family, they have refunded the $1000 to my family for the flight to find my brother,” she said. “It’s hard to believe that there are still some wonderful people in this world. I thank you again from the bottom of my heart.”

But How Did He Know?
I’m sure many wondered after reading this story, how could Samuel’s father “knew” where to find him? I don’t think many of them would come up with the idea of renting a helicopter, but Samuel’s father did. And there’s a reason behind every act, so Samuel’s father had a hunch for some reason that his son might be wounded or in trouble in the middle of nowhere.

But How Did He Know?
Aftermath
Why would his father decide to rent a helicopter and search the area where his son was found? Well, as it turns out, a bulb lit up in Tony’s head amid all the uncertainty, stress, and worry when he recalled that there was a crash in the area and that the victim was found dead five days later. Tonny pledged, “I was not going to let that happen.”

Aftermath
Dad Saves Son
Sam was rescued by his father, who rented a helicopter to find him, after being trapped for 30 hours in a crashed car. After the paramedics arrived, he was immediately taken to the hospital and saw how gravely injured he was. A bone sticking out of his thigh was one of the injuries he suffered, one of the facts indicating that the car crash must have been horrible.

Dad Saves Son
First Words
It only makes sense for someone after going through something as traumatic as a car accident to have something profound to say afterward. They had some time to ponder and reflect deeply on their lives. Samuel had been trapped in that car for about 30 hours, so clearly, he had a lot on his mind. The first words from Samuel to his father were: “I’d love a drink.” “They were the only words he spoke,” Mr. Lethbridge said.

First Words
Good, Tough Kid
Samuel‘s dad described him as a “good, tough, and very fit kid.” He plays for Belmont-Swansea Football Club in a soccer competition for the local under-19s. Furthermore, days earlier, Sam had just begun an electrical apprenticeship, but obviously, that would have to be put on hold until he recovers. “He spoke to me when I got down to the car,” Mr. Lethbridge said. “I grabbed him, and I said: ‘Mate, dad’s got you.’”

Good, Tough Kid
Road To Recovery Takes Long
Of course, after being trapped in a car with all those injuries for so long, Sam lost consciousness. Once his wounds had been taken care of, Sam regained consciousness, and he was stable, but still could not move out of bed. After three weeks in the hospital, he managed to walk or even move for the first time. But again, he was so lucky that his dad found him when he did.

Son Ignores Dad Is A Hero
Sam could only walk there for weeks after being stuck in a bed for more than three weeks. He started talking and saying a couple of words at the same time. Three weeks after the accident occurred, no one spoke to Sam about it. His father’s length went to save his son had not been told to him yet: Pay $1000 to be able to do aerial research.

Why Would No One Tell Him Anything?
It’s expected that one doesn’t remember exactly what happened or how they ended up in the hospital after an accident. But you may quickly become overwhelmed by stress and panic after having a near-death experience. None of these factors/emotions are optimal when you’ve just been in an accident. The most important thing is not to put the patient under pressure or stress and just let them fully recover without any worry in their minds.

Why Would No One Tell Him Anything?
No Connection To The Outside World
They all denied him access to his phone or any other device with access to the internet, as the greatest father that Tony proved to be and the excellent care the doctors took of Sam, so he would not see the news, reports, and what was being said about the accident. After his close encounter with death, the last thing that Sam needed was to feel overwhelmed or suffocated.

No Connection To The Outside World
Injuries
It wouldn’t sound strange that Sam would have had a few injuries after being trapped in a car crashed for 30 hours with no one to take care of him. Well, 17, to be exact. Let us remember that he almost died in a fatal accident like that. He also suffered three fractures in his arm, three fractures in his elbow, and a dislocated elbow, as well as a fracture in his thighbone. Three weeks after the accident, he took his first steps.

Spotting The Sinister
Samuel’s father, Tony, decided to take the matter into his own hands after his journey, renting a chopper with his $1000 cash. He looked across the world and was unsatisfied with the search, so at that moment, trying by air was his last hope. After finding his son, his words were as follows: “If the helicopter weren’t hovering above, I would have never had found him, because I couldn’t see him from the road.”

What Allegedly Occurred
Tony’s first guess was that the car was moving at a speed of approximately 80 kph when it deviated from the road, after carefully analyzing the area of the accident and the situation of the car. They believe that after the vehicle rolled and finally landed on its wheels, the vehicle hit a concrete pole that shredded the driver’s door and destroyed the vehicle. To set Samuel free, the emergency services had to cut open the car.

What Allegedly Occurred
Operation Getting Helicopter
Tony went to the airport with his $1000 cash, hoping to get a helicopter. Given that the company’s CEO was not there, the employees decide to provide Tony with their services for as long as necessary and for the price that Samuel’s father was willing to pay. The staff decided to launch the helicopter without hesitation and do their best to find the 17-year-old boy missing for a couple of days.

There Are Good People In This World
His parents returned to the airport to pay for the company’s services once Sam was rescued and safe in the hospital. The company, however, decided to return the money to the family a few days later. They said they had already been under enough pressure and that the last thing they needed was economic issues. They wanted to help with the medical costs that were undoubtedly going to be expensive, too.

Raising Money
To take care of all his medical expenses, Sam’s family needed financial help. Thet tried to raise money by asking people to help them through this difficult emotional and financial time to make small donations. How has he been doing this? Sam Lethbridge’s road to recovery by creating a campaign. Fortunately, many individuals supported and helped them with their cause.

What’s Next?
Sam intimately began the road to recovery after his accident. It would take him time to recover fully from his injuries, as is natural, after the terrible accident he had. After three weeks, he began with small steps that were already fast and incredible. As his father said, “He’s a tough kid,” he started talking again at the same time and, thankfully, got on the right path to a healthy recovery.

Happy Ending
We’re happy to report that things are going well for Sam and his family, despite the horrible experience the whole family has gone through. Thankfully, even though he had been so injured, he made a full recovery. Fortunately, the family can put this ordeal into the past now and move on.

Not All Heroes Wear Capes
We learn from this intense story that parents’ love for their children can conquer everything, and that nothing wrong will ever happen to them while they are in their care. In such stressful times, Tony proved to be brave and full of hope. It may help the police and other investigative agencies, but what is clear is that parents have an extra sense that connects them to their children.
