Billie Jean King
This sports legend first gained popularity when she won against Bobby Riggs in a tennis match in 1973. It was heralded as the “Battle of the Sexes”. A movie depicting this event was made and Emma Stone played the character of Billie Jean King. She was the first famous female athlete to come out publicly as gay in 1981. She was then inducted in the International Tennis Hall of Fame in 1987, six years after her coming out. In 1987, she divorced Larry King. Since then, she has been with Ilana Kloss, her former partner in doubles. They live in New York together.
