Requests For Rescue
Now, this one is a bit bizarre. Apparently, when Gilligan’s Island aired, the Coast Guard began receiving letters from people asking for help to rescue these castaways. Surprisingly, these viewers never realized it was only a show. When Schwartz interviewed with the Archive of American Television, he called those watchers delusional and asked, “Now who did they think was laughing at what was happening to these people? Where did they think the music came from, and the commercials?”
