More on actor Jim Backus. Truth is, he couldn’t be more different than his on-screen character, big spending, millionaire Howell. In real life, he was the total opposite. All those that worked with him knew his notorious frugal ways. Lots of stories circulated about meal breaks. Apparently, most times Backus often ‘forgot’ his wallet. Thus, forcing his costars to foot the bill for him. Actually, his did this so frequently the whole Gilligan’s Island crew teased him about the awful habit.
