Great news, folks, Stranger Things ~has~ been renewed for a third season! Hallelujah. Which obviously leaves fans with some questions regarding the cast, storyline, theories and trailer announcements. Netflix did confirm that the science fiction show will come back in early 2019, plus there only be eight episodes instead of nine! And it takes place in the summer of 1985, a year later than where season two left off. So with all of that information buzzing around, let’s break it down for a minute.
Stranger Things Cast
Looks like dad Stever will be making a comeback. Producer and director Shawn Levy told fans that Steve (played by Joe Keery) will have a bigger role in Stranger Things season three. “We’ll definitely get to see some more of Steve Harrington in Season Three, and I’ll just say we won’t be abandoning the Dad Steve magic. I don’t want to say much more, but I literally feel that we were walking along and we stumbled onto a gold mine with Dad Steve,” Levy explained.
Moreover, the adorable relationships between Mike and Eleven, Max and Lucas will be strong. Oh, but there’s a brand new character joining the game. Maya Thurman-Hawke (yes, Ethan Hawke’s daughter!) will play “Robin” an alternative girl with a mundane job who discovers a very dark secret in Hawkins. Lastly, Lucas’ little sister Erica will apparently be in “every single episode” of season three and she has an army of friends that go on a wild mission to Hawkins from a dangerous threat.
About the Episodes In Stranger Things Season 3…
TVLine reported that Stranger Things season three will only have eight episodes, instead of the usual nine as the first two seasons. The executive producer Shawn Levy told Glamour, “We’re there. It’ll be an eight- or nine-episode season. The number of episodes will be dictated by the amount of story that excites us. We now know what is going to happen in season three to every character.” We guess it’s just a case of finalizing the details!
Stranger Things Season 3 Release Date
In that same interview, Levy did confirm that the show will return in late 2018 or early 2019. “If we could make it [return] faster, then we would,” he said. “But we’re going to make it well. We’re going to do it right.” However, we have to wonder why would we have to wait until 2019 for the show’s return? “I mean, one of the things that’s annoying for fans is that it takes us a long time to do them,” he said. “Like, you probably won’t get [Season 3] until sometime in 2019. But also part of the thing is, like any good thing, they need time. And those guys work so hard. I mean, they just sit in their apartment and write for 12, 14 hours a day.” Okay, that sounds far.
The Storyline of Stranger Things Season 3
We can assume that the following will be happening in Stranger Things season three: Demogorgons will be roaming Hawkins, Eleven will eat many Eggo Waffles, and Joyce Byers will eventually have a nervous breakdown because something bad will probably happen to Will. Those are just some of my personal ideas though, and it looks like I’m wrong in a few aspects.
“We’re going to give Will a break,” Shawn Levy said. “We’re not going to put Will through hell for a third season in a row. He’ll be dealing with stuff, but he won’t be at rock bottom the way we forced the amazing Noah Schnapp to play.” Thank goodness, that kid needs a break!
Mike and Eleven, and Max and Lucas will all be in relationships at the start of season three. “Mike and Eleven and are going strong, so that’s a relationship that continues, and same with Mad Max and Lucas. But again, they’re like 13- or 14-year-old kids, so what does romance mean at that stage of life? It can never be simple and stable relationships and there’s fun to that instability,” Shawn Levy explained.
It seems that the relationship between Steve and Dustin will be growing as well. “In season two, it was all very cute and there was a funny factor to it because it was unexpected”, says Levy, “but now that it is expected, I want to see them connect more and be more familiar with each other. I want them to have a connection like they’ve really had a connection for a year—like they’re brothers.” Now that sounds epic.
However this is Hawkins after all, so it won’t all be sunshine and rainbows. Season two may have finished off a bit nice but the threat from the Upside Down is very real. The gate in the lab appears to have been closed, but that massive giant is still at large.
Has Filming Started for Stranger Things 3?
Nope, filming hasn’t started yet. But don’t worry, by mid April things should be picking up soon! The past two seasons took about nine months to complete so filming could be over before we know. it. Although we have to wait a while long for the trailer to drop!
